About this deal

Leica’s top selling laser meter is one of the best value and most versatile measuring devices on the market, making it an ideal choice... Surveyors' tapes, sometimes called long tapes, are generally 20m to 30m in length but can also range from 50m to 100m (some to an incredible 200m). They come in a wide range of materials which makes them ideal for many different purposes.

Since you’re going to be outdoors using this item, most likely in the rain and cold if in England, you want it to be comfortable. Most surveying tapes are made from basic plastics such as ABS which are perfectly comfortable, so consider the material. Rubber casing is always ideal too which the HKB ® 1 piece measuring tape has. Synthetic tapes used in Land Surveying are made of glass fibers coated with PVC. These are light in weight and flexible. They are available in lengths of 5m, 10m, 20m, 30m, and 50m. Synthetic tapes may stretch when subjected to tension. Hence, these are not suitable for accurate surveying works. However, synthetic tapes are recommended in place of steel tapes where it is essential to take measurements in the vicinity of electric fences and railway lines, etc. An integral part of any surveyors’ tape is the hook. The size and shape of hook can vary significantly from one model to another depending on the manufacturer, but a surveyors’ tape will almost always incorporate a foldable metal hook to anchor the tape into soft ground when taking measurements with a level. Surveyors, why buy from The Tape Store? Put simply we know land surveyors need to take quality measurements so, naturally, we provide quality measuring tools. For those of you who need accurate measurements, whether it be in the garden or for construction purposes, sometimes a basic tape measure isn’t enough. They can be a bit flimsy to use and easily bend/move when moved, so they can actually end up being a real pain. If this sounds like a relatable issue, or if your tape measure just won’t cover a certain job you need to get done, then surveyors tape is for you and this review covers all you need to know about them. The coefficient of thermal expansion of invar alloy is very low. It is not affected by changes in temperature. Hence, these tapes are used for high precision works in surveying such as baseline measurement, triangulation surveys, etc. Invar tapes are expensive than all the other types of tapes. These tapes should be handled with care otherwise bends or kinks may be formed. If you need to take very accurate measurements with a tape measure, then the invar tape is the most accurate of all measuring tapes.

Metal measuring tapes can be either flexible or non-flexible. If you try and measure a curved surface with a non-flexible tape measure you will likely permanently damage the tape. Also if exposed to moisture or retracted with dirt on the tape, this can cause the tape to corrode and affect the recall of the tape. While some land surveyors believe that a Tape Survey isn't a survey at all and a few others believe Tape Survey to be a meaningless term, actually a Surveyors Tape (sometimes referred to as a Tape Measure) is a valuable tool and Tape Surveys are important, in my opinion. In fact there are more than 5 types of Tapes used in Land Surveying for linear measurements. This week Leica Geosystems release the newest member of the DISTO family: the DISTO D110. The diminutive D110 breaks the mould for Leica, sc... Ever come across a land surveyor without a tape measure? No, we haven’t either. It’s an essential piece of kit for any surveyor, civil or structural engineer... in fact, any construction professional. Cloth tape, also known as Linen tape is a varnished strip made of closely woven linen. The width of the strip is about 12 to 16 mm. It is available in different lengths such as 10m, 20m, 30m, and 50m. Both ends of the linen tape are provided with metallic handles and the whole tape is wounded in leather or metal case. A lot of Land Surveyors prefer a Linen Tape because Linen tapes are light in weight and easy to handle. These tapes may shrink when exposed to water and also elongate when pulled. Hence, these tapes are not suitable for accurate surveying measurements. These are generally used for measuring offsets and for ordinary works. In our fourth place spot is another fantastic surveyors tape, but this time we are noting it for being the most expensive (yet worth the money) product in this list. It’s priced at similar money when compare to the Draper, and measures 100m, so it definitely could be worse, but it’s still expensive. In other words, this is the tape we suggest you buy if you’re not worried about price or even length, as having more available length to measure with is better than having too little. Just like fiberglass measuring tapes, cloth and linen tapes are not suitable where an accurate measurement needs to be taken. The cloth or linen tape stretch when tension is put on the line and shrinks when exposed to water.

Measuring Moisture Levels Is Easy to Master

The design is a bit different to other products in this list, as it has a smaller rotary handle and is smaller in general, as well as being compact to make it foldable for storage purposes. It’s got a sleek design and feels highly ergonomic too. The tape itself is fibreglass material and is washable too, so it’s ideal for outdoor use. Winding and rewinding is simple and smooth and really, it doesn’t have any negatives when considering structural or functional features at all. Surveyors tape measures also come with two types of cases. The closed reel variety uses a more familiar design whereby the entire blade is encased within a plastic or steel shell thereby protecting the blade against accidental cuts etc. The open reel type, whilst more open to this type of damage, sees the blade held within a frame-style case which is not only lighter and frequently easier to carry, it also allows for much easier cleaning and prevents jamming when rewinding dirty tapes. The Protimeter Mini Moisture Meter is one of the most popular tools on the market used by surveyors and building professionals alike.
