About this deal

We all really appreciate the time you gave, the different elements of the session and the brilliant resources you've shared. As the Brothers McLeod, Myles and Greg have worked for clients such as Disney, Aardman, the BBC, ITV, Dreamworks, and the RSC.

Written by Myles and illustrated by Greg, the brothers are well-known in the tv world for their animation, including series Circle Square on Channel 5’s Milkshake. My professional qualifications are: PGDip in Library and Information Management from the University of Ulster and CILIP Chartership (MCLIP). However, King Burt the Not Bad has picked the wrong time to banish his knight and the maybe not so charming Squire, now Knight, Sir Lyme is in his place. He has defeated hungry dragons, evil goblins and horrible wizards (but please nobody mention wasps, Knight Sir Louis is absolutely NOT afraid of them). Knight Sir Louis is the hero and despite still being a boy he exhibits all the skill, bravery and intelligence of a king’s champion, which is the position we find him in at the start. The third in the hilarious series about Knight Sir Louis - a calm courageous hero in a rather bonkers world - this time battling with his friends against the terrifying Sorcerer of Slime.

I think that is it wonderful for upper KS2 classrooms and school libraries to be able to offer this book in their collections, to encourage children to read for sheer joy. But also, there's a real joy in discovering the new characters who bring something fresh and unexpected to the land of Squirrel Helm. Unfortunately, King Burt the Not Bad is also not too clever and is rather easily duped by the oleaginous stranger, Squire Lyme, who arrives at Sideways Castle and charms the king with obsequious flattery and a bag of green gummies! The fearsome and sneaky dragon is a match for any gallant knight, but will Sir Louis be up to the challenge? He has written extensively for children’s TV including Octonauts, Hey Duggee, and Noddy Toyland Detective (which he co-created). From funny illustrated tales for five-year-olds and magical middle-grade stories, to inspiring and thought-provoking novels for young adults, Guppy Books promises to publish something for everyone.

I love the illustrative device of always depicting him with his helmet on so that we never get to see what he looks like, thus every child can imagine themselves as the hero of this story.Time for Knight Sir Louis to step up again, but oh dear, King Burt the Not Bad has banished his knight and appointed the not-quite-as-charming-as-he-seems Squire now Knight Sir Lyme in his place.
