About this deal

The mat is designed to fit a woman’s body, thanks to its shapely design where It gets narrower near the shoulders and wider near the hips. However, I'd argue that it shouldn't discourage anyone else from buying it if they like what they see. Warm and comfortable– self inflating air mats provide a cushioned barrier between you and the ground for a happier night’s sleep The Shangri-La is exceptionally easy to inflate and deflate, and this is one of its major strengths. The Cyclone ‘flip-valve’ as seen on the Comfort 10 Double is a joy to use. Simply flip it around to the correct airflow direction required. Inflation happens automatically, and deflation can be achieved in a couple of minutes by the old “roll and kneel” manoeuvre. With a waterproof PVC base and a soft material on top it’s designed to be both durable and comfortable. Let’s start with some definitions. At Camping Secrets, we generally distinguish between a Camping Mat and a Camping Mattress as follows:

The Decathlon Quechua Ultima is a comfortable mattress at a pretty reasonable price point. It’s not the cheapest double and it’s not the most expensive. Would we like a little more cushioning, say 10cm total? Well actually we didn’t really miss those extra 2cm, and the great insulation really made a difference on a cold autumn night. We slept very well, with none of the ‘sleeping bad sliding’ you get on some smoother SIMs. For real additional comfort to the Ultim you need to be looking at a 15cm SIM such as the Outdoor Revolution Skyfall or similar. The Shangri-La is for all intents and purposes a proper mattress when it’s fully inflated. It has vertical side walls to maximize the top-level surface area and this means that you don’t roll off in the night. One good feature of the Ultim is that both the single and the double SIMs in the range come with clips which enable you to join up multiple SIMs into an enormous bed. Perfect to practice your gymnastic routine on after a few beers! There’s no doubt that the Kip Highrise is an absolutely blissful in terms of the luxury it offers and actually it offers good value at the pricepoint we’ve seen for this year. With Vango goods you are are always assured of decent quality fabrics and components, and the company have extensive experience in the inflatable arena with their tents and sofas. With dimensions of 190L x 85W x 10H cm it’s one of the larger single-sized self inflating mats on the market, but is still compact enough to fit on the Kings Stretcher for an elevated sleeping experience or inside their Swags. Weighing only 2kg in large size (196 x 64 x 11cm) and 2.5kg in XXL (203 x 76 x 11cm), this is a surprisingly lightweight product which has greatly impressed us. It is more less than half the weight of the Vango Shangri-La for example. Personally I would plump for the XL if you find you have a choice of sizes – it just gives that extra bit of surface area for a nice sprawl when sleeping, and for not much extra weight.

After inflation, just screw the valve cap in and hey presto, it’s ready to lie on! Berghaus Air 10 In Use The mat comes with a compact drawstring bag for simple storage and transportation. When stored inside the bag, it weighs approximately 2.2kg to easily carry with the rest of your gear. Unfold and use: Once the mattress is fully inflated, unfold it and place it on your camping tent or any other desired surface. Measuring 201 x 74 x 5cm when inflated, the IForrest includes both an integrated pillow and armrests for significant added comfort. What is great about the armrests is that they stop you rolling off the mattress in the night very effectively. If you are planning to use it on top of a camp bed then this is an important consideration – you might be a foot off the floor! A self inflating mat or mattress, also known as a SIM in camping, is a lightweight and easily compressed foam mat. They can be rolled up tightly for easy transportation and are perfect for a range of camping activities, whether it’s for a good night’s sleep at a festival or taking on an expedition. You can lie on in with your sleeping bag in a tent, or even in a camper van.If you have space, it’s best to store your mat unrolled with the valve open. This lets the foam breathe and prevents it getting overly compressed. Store it out of direct sunlight. Good places to keep the mat are out the way under the bed or in the loft. Vango offer a 2 year warranty on all their gear and that gives peace of mind when buying a self inflating mattress. If there are any issues with the valve or unexpected deflations in the night then they will unhesitatingly repair or replace your treasured SIM. A self inflating camping mat is a clever little piece of kit. Inside, they comprise a special type of cell foam attached to a valve.

For all intents and purposes the Kip becomes a proper home-style mattress when it’s fully inflated. It has vertical side walls to maximize the top-level surface area and this means that you don’t roll off in the night. Both camping mats and camping SIMs can also be used on top of a camp bed or ‘cot’ (as the Americans say) for more of a bed-like experience. This also helps stop the heat escape problem which lying on the ground can incur. The first time you use your mat, it might take a little longer to inflate, so take it out at home first to prepare it. If you think it needs some help inflating, you can blow into it yourself. Deflating and inflating it again can also help breath life into a new mat! There are two valves on the mattress. The second valve can be manually blown up which elevates the head area for a make-shift pillow, but that’s completely optional and up to you so feel free to experiment! There are many benefits to buying a sleeping mat. Here are some of the top things a sleeping pad can do for you: Fold the self inflating mat in half (most carry bags are half the width of the mat, if your bag is a third of the size, fold the mat into three, length ways) In use, the comfort is very good indeed, and provides just enough support for up to around 15 stone in weight. If more support is needed then air can be blown into the top valve – this makes the top surface more taut, but less comfortable.

Never have another camping trip spoiled by sleeping on a hard, damp, cold ground. If you want to ensure you'll get a good night's sleep when you are next away camping, you need a camping roll mat. With a sleeping mat under your sleeping bag, the ground will feel more even and create an additional layer of insulation between your body and the ground. Here at Decathlon, you'll find everything you need, from self-inflating camping mattresses to make you feel more at home to camping roll mats that will provide the warmth, comfort and firm support you need for a restful sleep. Our camping mats insulate and keep out the moisture and cold. R-value is suitable for the summer, but you’ll need to opt for better options if you’re planning a winter trip. We really love Outdoor Revolution – they make great quality items at the mid-to-top end of the camping spectrum. Yes they may be slightly more expensive than the Decathlon’s of this world, but we’ve never been let down by their tents or their general camping gear.

It is a true 4-season sleeping pad with an R-Value of 6.8. This provides excellent insulation between you and the floor for effective winter-use.
