About this deal

He initially invested in a shorter and safer steamboat route through Nicaragua to transport passengers and goods from the US East Coast to the West Coast during the height of the California Gold Rush. The route was a huge success, but when news broke about the construction of the Panama Canal and the US coast-to-coast railway, Canessa knew it was time to set out on a new adventure. In 1890, he found the perfect setting for the Flor de Caña distillery at the base of Nicaragua’s tallest and most active volcano: the San Cristóbal. The fertility of its surrounding lands, the enriched water and the tropical volcanic climate proved to be instrumental in forging the rum’s exceptionally smooth flavour. I like the way the rum stands up to the cola. Whilst it also takes a slight edge of the bubbliness of the cola and smooths the drink out slightly. The strong rum taste remains mixed with that slightly boozy feel to it. With Flor De Cana 7 you feel you are drinking a “stiff drink” but also one that is refined, well aged and nicely blended. We are told that our pay includes the seventh day, but that is not true," Joe,* who works in the human resources department at ISA says. Joe has been working for the company for five years and notes that during his first year, when he was cutting sugarcane, his creatinine levels went above normal. He has since been able to control them.

Flor de Caña continues raising the bar for the global spirits industry around environmental sustainability and social responsibility,” says Rice. “[They’ve created] a mechanism for investing in the workers producing the raw ingredients for the rum. We’re excited by this partnership and the ripple effect that it’s poised to create.” 100 Percent Natural From Field to Flask Competitors were challenged to pair carbon neutral Flor de Caña rum with seasonal, local, or Fair Trade ingredients, or repurposed leftovers. Each used their creativity and expertise to craft a drink that will also help to eliminate 15 tonnes of food waste. The microclimate surrounding San Cristóbal plays another key factor. “Flor de Caña matures at a higher temperature and humidity level than other spirits such as whiskey and Cognac,” Mauricio Solórzano, global brand ambassador, says. “These conditions lead to a more dynamic interaction between the barrel and rum and to a higher [rate of evaporation].” Recently, Flor de Caña expanded its range with the launch of V Generaciones, a 30‐year‐old single‐barrel ultra‐luxury rum.As a sipper the Gran Reserva 7 offers a very oaky mouthful. Bitter notes come to the front following an initial sweet rush of brown sugar which is very short lived. Despite the nose the alcohol does not dominate the flavour. The finish is overall quite bitter almost like dark chocolate. Its long lasting and if a mix of oak and slight bitter notes is what you like, this could be a very nice sipper for you. I’m conscious I’m not making this sound all that good but in reality I actually quite like this. It’s fairly rough in terms of alcohol notes but it doesn’t burn badly. However its youth does show through say in comparison to a more aged sipper. Becoming the world’s only Carbon Neutral & Fair Trade Certified spirit was the result of numerous efforts throughout the years and a deep commitment to sustainable practices across the board: employees, community and environment. For decades, the Nicaraguan premium rum producer has been committed to creating a more sustainable production line: distilling its rum using 100% renewable energy and capturing all CO2 emissions during fermentation. But Flor de Caña’s commitment to being green goes much further than its distillery. Flor de Caña has developed a series of programs aimed at sharing and promoting the value of sustainability with the trade and rum enthusiasts around the globe, allowing them to be a part of a movement to ensure a greener future for everyone.

Flor de Caña has received more than 200 international accolades, making it one of the most awarded rums worldwide. One of the highest distinctions received by the brand was being named ‘Global Rum Producer of the Year’ by the International Wine and Spirit Competition in London in 2017. In terms of taking care of the environment, Flor de Caña has been distilling its rum with 100% renewable energy for more than a decade. The brand has also planted 50,000 trees annually since 2005 and captures and recycles all CO2 emissions during the fermentation process. In 1890, Francisco Alfredo Pellas Canessa, along with the founders, began to celebrate the end of the agricultural harvest season with small quantities of aged rum. More than 130 years later, the entire production process continues under the supervision of the same family (five generations of mastery and family values), achieving perfection in rum making. Top Quality Credentials In the community of La Isla, more than 70 percent of male deaths are due to chronic kidney disease. En la "cuna" del Flor de Caña - El Observador Económico (28-05-2007)". www.elobservadoreconomico.com.Still this is one of the issues rum has created for itself in many ways. It simply cannot be trusted! Nose: Starts with rum raisins, mahogany and whiffs of diesel fumes. A sharp cloud of alcohol numbs the nose. Then developments of marzipan and modeling clay followed by orange soaked honey and a huge load of nuts such as macadamias, hazel and Brazil nuts. The smell is still sharp even after ten minutes.

In the bottle the rum is lovely rich brown with red flashes, in the glass slightly lighter with a gold hint to it. In terms of an aged rum it certainly looks the part. Today, Flor de Caña is the only spirit to hold the two top sustainability credentials in the world: carbon‐neutral certification and Fair Trade status.
